So its been quite some time since I wanted to taste the android modding
feel. I finally found a guinea pig who wanted me to root his wildfire s
. So let me get started without further ado!
Remember this is only for Marvel and not any other variant. I am not responsible for anything that happens to your phone.
Ok so overall there are 4 parts to this.
1. Updating bootloader.
2. Unlocking bootloader.
3. Installing ClockWorkrecoveryMod.
4. And finally, rooting.
Before we start,
Switch off your phone, remove and reinsert the battery. Hold the volume down button and press the power button. You will switch on your phone into ‘HBOOT’ mode. On top there should be something like ***locked*** if it shows this way then continue. Else it will show something like ***locked(oow)*** this means your bootloader is already updated. So skip that step and continue. And if it shows ***unlocked***, you can skip the second part too. So only 3rd and 4th step(damn lucky!)
A. Updating the bootloader:
First off, head over to the htcdev.com and register with it. Give it a working email id as you will require that later.
1. Go to the unlock bootloader option and agree with all the forms telling you about nullifying your warranty ( you already know that right? xD)
2. After that it will show you a page with some instructions and many links to download various bootloaders.
3. Download the one which matches your software version. If you have updated to 2.3.5 using OTA, then your software version should be 2.13.720.1 if it is then download htc asia india-(worked for me), or the htc eu(Europe. Worked for a friend)
4. Connect your phone to the PC in usb debugging mode.
5. Then select the RUU that you just downloaded.
6. Follow the instructions it gives you. They are self-explanatory.
7. After sometime it will show you – “Success” and some stuff after that. When you take out your phone and boot into HBOOT, you should see ***locked(oow)*** on top.
8. Congrats, you passed the first step!
B. Unlocking the bootloader :
1. First, ensure that you have android SDK, java installed.
2. Scroll right down to the end of the page where you downloaded your RUU and click on the green button that says proceed to step 1. Read and follow the detailed steps carefully.
3. The last one will tell you to copy a command prompt paragraph. You don’t have to write it all down. Just right click on the heading of command prompt and select mark. Using that mark the paragraph the want you to and press Ctrl+C . Paste the copied content in that space provided and select continue.
4. You will receive an email with attached key for your bootloader. Click on the link given for further detailed instructions.
After you are done with all of that boot to HBOOT and you should see ***unlocked*** on top of the screen.
Congrats you passed the second part!
C. Install CWM(ClockWorkrecoveryMod)
Quote:
1. Download the official 5.0.2.8 image at ClockworkMod’s download page. Make sure you choose the right one for your device whether Marvel or MarvelC (listed as "Wildfire S" and "Wildfire S CDMA" respectively) and save it somewhere you can find it later. If you downloaded the zip version, extract the img file from the zip you just downloaded.
2. Boot the phone into HBOOT. (You are a pro at this by now, right? ) After it scans for PG7610.zip, select FASTBOOT and press the power button then connect the USB cable. The word FASTBOOT will change into FASTBOOT USB. If not, then either your USB drivers for the Wildfire S or Android SDK Tools is not installed properly.
3. Open a command prompt in Windows and navigate to the folder where you extracted the recovery image in step 1.
4. Type the following command: fastboot flash recovery [image name.img]. For example:
c:\android\>fastboot flash recovery recovery-clockwork-5.0.2.8-marvel.img
If you have downloaded the MarvelC image, the image name will be recovery-clockwork-5.0.2.8-marvelc.img.
